All the great Dirt Bikes!
Taco Mini-bike.  My first anything; I had it 4 days.  It was
stolen the first weekend after I got it.  Age 11 or
thereabouts.
Sears Special Mini-bike; the replacement.  My parents told
me their insurance covered it; I later found out it didn't.
They are the best!  I rode the wheels off this stupid thing.
1970 Honda SL-100, my first real motorcycle.  My feet were
nowhere near the ground; my mom was worried sick.  This
was a great bike and got me started riding off road.  Age 13.
1971 Honda CL-70.  I needed this bike to deliver my papers
since it was street legal and I could ride it with a license at
age 14.  I started racing it for my school dirt bike team- Big
mistake!  I shook every nut and bolt loose from this bike,
and I can't believe it didn't break in half.
1972 DKW 125 Hornet.  I paid $999 for this beauty with a
paper route- that was a fortune back then.  It was tough
getting back on the sting ray to deliver papers, but I had to
have a real dirt bike.  I got one for sure- this thing was state
of the art!  First race- 1972 DRA Baker to Vegas- 3rd place
125 Novice under 16.  Hooked!
1973 Honda 250 Elsinore.  Holy Cow!  This was the bike that
changed dirt biking forever, and I had one of the very first
ones ever in Las Vegas.  I raced in the 73 Barstow to Vegas
and blew it up on the Baker dry lake- a great start to my
racing career!
1974 Husky cr-250 MAG.  Why I bought this bike I'll never
know.  (The picture on the right is exactly how I felt about it)  I
set a record in Southern Nevada for DNF's in a row that
probably still stands.  I was the world fastest novice, since I
could not finish a race without breaking down!
1976 Yamaha YZ-400.  Finally!  After 2 years of misery on the
Husky I got this desert weapon and took off.   I started
winning and moved from Novice to Amateur in a couple of
races.  Fast, reliable, and started  dead engine from the line
like no other bike could.  Note the ultra high tech fork gas
chambers that looked like a speedo and tach.
1977 Yamaha YZ-400.  A bike would only last a season of
racing- as a result I needed a new one every year.  The 77
was better than the 76, but the swing arm and frame broke a
lot.  We would strip the bike and have the whole frame
strengthened.
1978 Yamaha YZ-400.   Another year, another YZ.  The 78
finally came with the aluminum swing arm and a much better
monoshock.
1979 Yamaha YZ-400.  Without a doubt the best of the YZ line
to date.  This bike carried me to my best ever Expert race
finishes.   It was tough to sell this one.
1980 Yamaha yz-465.  The last of the Yamaha dynasty.  I only
raced this bike a few times, as I was sort of getting out of
racing.   I ended up selling it to my boss in 1982 after I
moved to the Bay area in 1981.
1983 Honda CR480R.  I bought this bike specifically to race
the Barstow to Vegas in 1983 when the race was brought
back.  Awesome bike- (except for the low gearing) I crashed
it into oblivion in the race while up near the front and still
finished 100th or so.
1993 KTM 300EXC.  Long, long time between dirt bikes!  I
got this superb bike to ride in the mountains in Northern
California.  I started doing enduros- lots of fun, but not like
the desert.  There's nothing like the desert.
2000 Yamaha YZ-426F.  Four stroke wonder bike.  I rode
one of these while out in the woods; it was a $6K test ride.
What a motor!  My best friend/racing partner Brian Aden
and I rode HIS 426 to 2nd over 40 expert in the Nevada
2000.  (it was HIS idea!)
2006 KTM-450-XC.  Newest scooter- Feb 06.  This bike is
really nice.  The electric start is worth the price of the bike!
I'm starting to get back in to the enduro's since I'm in the
super senior class now.  (Where does time go?)  First race
in 5 years- Wild Piglet Family Enduro, Clear Creek, 2nd
overall.
